wasn't that big on this place. I heard heard great things, but I just wasn't impressed. their chips and salsa are good, queso is decent. I guess happy hour is the best time to check this place out, drinks are good and food is really cheap.

From a puro tejano the food here is excellente and only exceeded by the service. Highly suggest the mexican old fashioned, fried plantains, and carnitas! ¡Órale!

Wesley was great drinks were great. Good customer service by our bar tender. Food was okay and the kitchen wasn't on their game. Overpriced but overall a good experience.

Loud, overpriced, under serviced, uninspired food. Another mediocre 'hip' joint for Palo Alto's already over served food sector. Better suited for an urban setting where hipsters don't really care, but for time being at least Palo Alto is still a suburban city. Hopefully I'm not just dreaming about a bygone era.

Came here for the 1st time with hubby.....for a lack of a better description it was enjoyable. Saturday night so they were busy. 15min. wait at 6pm for a table for 2, they had a good system to send you a text when your table is ready. My biggest complaint for the night was the awkward service. Our waitress clearly got sat 2 tables at the same time, so I think she was a bit busy....however that shouldn't be an excuse for rushed/poor service. She took our drink and food order all at once. We each ordered a starter and then a plate of 4 tacos to share. Sadly our starters and tacos arrived all at the same time (so tacos were naturally cold by the time we could eat them). Also, our food arrived before our drinks. Not cool! Food was good though. Aztec chicken tortilla soup is a nice big bowl! The Sopes napales were ok, came as 2 masa cakes with topping (1 cake seemed like it had been sitting out....pretty hard/stale). Tacos were good (we got the taco of the week - mole chicken verde and carnitas) Both hubby and I agree carniats were better. Would go back again, but not with high expectations just to eat basic good tacos.

    Decent...filet mignon taco was good.

We got an assortment of tacos. Fish, beef, pork and veggie. I didn't care for any of the except for the veggie taco and I am not a vegetarian. The fish taco was too fried and too much to eat. The beef was over cooked. The pork was ok. I had better tacos than this. The bar is fun and lively though. The margaritas are very good. If you want a laid back atmosphere with a crowd and good drinks this is the place to go!

Love the location, love the decor, love the tequila selection, love the concept, not too excited about their tacos.

3.5 stars - Went there to satisfy my hunger while at a happy hour at Rose & Crane British Pub. No food until after 6pm..lame. This place has a Great crowd. Fish tacos were good, but not great. I think I will have to take a drive to SolCal for that soon. Yummy!

I've been to the Tacolicious in the Mission a handful of times. The food is consistent, well cooked and never had an issue with service. Service at the Palo Alto location: Two thumbs down! This is my second visit and the service is horrible. There is no excuse given that there are plenty of employees and the restaurant has never been packed. On my most recent visit, the waitress didn't greet our table for 15 minutes. We ordered drinks, appetizers and tacos. Our appetizers (queso and guacamole) came out within a few minutes. Before we could a few bites of the queso, our tacos arrived. This happened the first time too. They need to learn how to time their food. Anyways, the tacos were luke warm. The nopales taco tasted like the nopales were from the can and they were slightly cold. 20 minutes later after our queso was gone, our tacos were finished, our waitress showed up with our drinks. She dropped them off like they were delivered timely. I told her we no longer wanted the drinks since we had already finished our entire meal. She acted surprised, let us keep them, and then dropped off the check with the drinks on them?! Then we had to send the check back. Management needs to put their servers in bootcamp. I won't be returning to this location again, and probably won't visit the SF location either since I no longer crave the (now) mediocre food. I will end this with one positive note: The busboys are friendly and work hard.

Food is good, but a little expensive for what it is. 4 small tacos for 14 dollars. (You'll need 4 for a medium size meal).

Great drinks! Excellent food, try Abondigas, Beet salad and Short ribs. I wish the chairs were more comfortable.

Drinks were expensive, $10 for small margarita. Mushroom empanadas were too sweet. Food came out quick but wait staff was really slow trading order and getting bill.

  • D. K.

I really want to give Tacolicious 3.5 stars... it was such a fun environment, though, that I'll bump it up to 4. Service was good, decor was funky and fun, and the prices were right. I loved the queso, and a taco or two. Some of the other tacos that we tried, though, were really not good. I was a little disappointed (especially since it's hard to mess up a taco.) I'll be back to try it again, because once they perfect all the taco choices, this will be a GREAT Palo Alto spot!

  • Cali P.

I heard a lot of hype about this place so I decided to try it. I love Mexican food but this place didn't do it for me. The ambiance is kinda hip and cool, more current. The food was just OK I feel. I came with a large party on a Sunday and we ended up sitting at the bar so we didn't have to wait but the service we got from the bartender was a little strange? He kept emphasizing that he was "new" and wasn't familiar with the menu which is fine, but ummm I really don't care if you're new, can you just put my order through or should I ask for help elsewhere? hmm

This is my first yelp review but after tonights experience I just had to give this restaurant justice! We came to Tacolicious initially to support her school's fundraiser. 0-M-G! The food was f***ing scrumptious and the service was first rate! (Excuse my french but the food was just exquisite! I have to hand it to my 6 year old, she won the chef over when she ate 3 fish tacos -which the chef himself delivered to her). I will admit it was a bit hard to find since it doesn't really stand out, especially with Gordon Biersch brewery overwhelmingly stands out. I also was coming in for a late dinner with my 6 year old so the atmosphere was more date night but the staff immediately made us feel welcomed and sat us next to a lovely couple. My daughter instantly recognized the mural on the wall as we like to play Mexican bingo (lotteria). It was a bit dark but then again it is a trendy restaurant :) I'm a taco stand kind of girl, but after ordering their chorizo and potatoe taco, queso and nopal taco, and carnitas taco my palate might not ever be satisfied again. It's a fresh take on a traditional meal and this company gives back to local schools! I will be going back again soon!

Came here for happy hour and was not disappointed. You can get a taco, a can of Tecate, and a shot for $10. Margaritas were $5. Got four drinks and a veggie taco for $20. Great deal! I probably won't go here outside of happy hour, but who cares?

I think that Tacolicious is a victim of its own success. I have been there two times-once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times, the restaurant was so busy that it was chaotic and uncomfortable. This caused the service to be very slow, which took away from the really great food. When we went in for lunch, we were seated promptly at the bar. It took a really long time for the waitress to take our order, and when she finally did, it took forever for the food to come out. Finally, after waiting about half an hour to eat, we asked for the food to go because we had to go to back to work. I decided to try again about a month later. This time, I went with a big group for dinner. We had to wait to be seated, and ordered drinks while we waited by the bar. Again, it took close to 15 minutes to get a margarita. When we did get seated, the tables were small and the bar stools were just not comfortable. If the service and ambiance improves, I will go back, because the food is good. I like the creative spin on tacos they serve, and the complementary chips and salsa are delicious.

Great lunch spot in Palo Alto. A little expensive (tacos start at $4) but you get what you pay for though. Great tacos and delicious meats. I had the chicken, carnitas and beef and loved each. The salsa tray with the habanero, medium and verde was a game changer. Large selection of tequilas and margaritas. Not an everyday spot but a nice middle ground.

Good food, slow table service, very bad on customer service. My card was supposed to be charged $40. That is what I signed on. On my credit card, it showed $72. I called them three times to get it rectified. First time - "the manager will call me back in 3 hours". Second time - "the manager will come in 30 minutes and will call me in an hour". Third time - "I am taking this to the manager right now and he will call you back shortly". No calls from them. No choice but to dispute the transaction with the bank.

Had dinner there tonight. The place is very loud inside, crowded, mediocre service, decent tacos. What really bothers me about this place was the hostess and how pushy they were: super reluctant to seat us (seemed weird), and continuously interrupting our dinner trying to shove the dessert menu down our throat. OK, we get it, you were crowded and wanted our table. But come on, this was classless. Seriously. Upon getting up, before I had even moved away from the table, another hostess was deliberately and rudely pushing me aside so she could wipe the table down. This is not how you treat customers. In my opinion, this place is way overrated. If the service was great, I'd be willing to give them another chance. But with so many great places to eat in Palo Alto, I won't be going back.

We enjoyed a recent meal during happy hour (4-6pm for now). So far we're tried only several types of tacos: carnitas, chicken, filet mignon (extra $), veggie, and nopales, plus a draft Negra Modelo and a house margarita. All were very good, with the carnitas tacos being the standout. Next time we'll try the pollo mole taco and maybe an empanada, and of course a couple more carnitas tacos. Our first visit, about two weeks ago. we ate at a table, service was competent but somewhat spotty. This time, seated at the bar counter, we enjoyed some of the best service I'd had at a restaurant, short of a jacket and white tablecloth kind of place. Generally three waitstaff were at work, at least one of them always present in the dining room, efficiently moving from table to table and scanning for needs. It was great. I suspect management read the early yelp reviews and made an effort to improve things. If so, it certainly worked. Contrary to what some other reviewers have said, these are not $1.50 tacos. Nothing wrong with a $1.50 taco, which are fine for what they are, I enjoy those too. Tacolicious tacos are a different animal, generously filled with carefully prepared high quality meats and veggies. They also come with a trio of interesting sauces from cool to hot. It's fun and fairly lively during happy hour.

like the concept, though the place was incredibly loud. music was blasting and it was hard to have a conversation. it was also extremely dark. the feel was more like a club than a restaurant. that said, the food was pretty decent. really enjoyed the tacos and the grilled squid. the complimentary chips and salsa were also great. also tried their grilled fish of the day and sopes. the fish was alright. a bit salty and particularly remarkable. the sopes looked good but were disappointing in that they were soggy and the stuff they put on top was rather mushy as well. also, the mexican old fashioned was either not made properly or just a poorly conceived drink. it tasted like rubbing alcohol. but overall, i'd come back here for more tacos and to try a couple more dishes.

Had a $100 tab and the drinks were not strong at all. It felt like I was drinking juice all night. The only good bar tender is Wes. Wouldn't recommend going unless he is working the bar! Was my second time going with 2 friends.

I really thought I'd like this place more than I do and I'm bummed. My first taste of Tacolicious was at a party. I liked the taco meats, salsa and guac so I was looking forward to sitting in the actual restaurant. Dissapointing tacos. Fish batter tasted like the baking powder wasn't mixed thoroughly. Carnitas, chicken and veggie were just okay. Biggest shock was the sashimi looking ceviche. I thought the fish was supposed to steep in the citrus long enough to turn white. Mine was completely pink and not flavorful. Maybe this isn't the thing to get? Maybe it shouldn't be on the menu? Didn't see any other review of the ceviche, so maybe nobody ever gets it? Sad to give a thumbs down.

Terrible service. I eat out a lot, and I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this place needs to get it together because the food is significantly better than the customer service. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were almost completely ignoring the customers; we literally needed to flag them down for attention. I asked for a beer list and the bartender said "sure". I then watched him then complete seven organizational tasks with no sense of urgency, forgot about my request, and then looked at me and remembered. Three minutes later I got the menu and asked for the check. I'm not high-maintenance or hard to please when it comes to service, but I found this place uncomfortable because of how cold the service was. I hope it gets better.

Had heard a lot about this place so went there with a friend one evening for a quick bite. We ordered Tacos ... Tacos are pretty small in size so one taco is almost useless, so the way their pricing works you have to order four tacos. Anyways, tacos were okay, too bland for my taste ... so had to get lots of hot sauces to go along with it. Wasn't too thrilled about the food or the really really noisy ambiance. For now, I am on fence - may give it another try on a different day at a different time to see if the experience is different.

We used Tacolicious for our six year old's birthday party in Palo Alto. We could not have been happier! The food was great as was working with Erin, the Catering Manager.

  • Jasmine H.

I just really was not impressed. The decor is interesting but kind of actually feels like a cafeteria. The service was actually pretty mixed, especially because the manager was very attentive but our waitress literally forgot one of the dishes that we ordered (thankfully we didn't end up even wanting it, but still..). The food was all kind of bland and not worth $4 a taco. Overall, nothing special and everyone in our party agreed our experience did not inspire us to come again.

    1. Hard to find the place because there wasn't a clear sign outside. And at first I thought it was an extension of the brewery/rest next door. No big deal - thats my fault 2. Entered and it was SOO loud, I had a hard time hearing my friends. Whats more important is that the waiters/waitresses didn't even speak up so none of my friends and I could hear when the brought the orders (in addition, they didn't even remember our orders so that was a huge hassle). 3. It took them 1 hr to seat us... maybe just an unusually busy night or simple a small venue? 4. Servers didn't put enough water, napkins, or plates on the table for all of us. Counting problems? 5. The food was actually pretty good. It fills you up fast so don't order too much. Easy to share, too. 6. We split the bill with cash and cards. Waited for the waitress to give us change back (for the people who gave cash). Never came. So we asked her and she said "Sorry no one ever told me they wanted their change." Really? The basic dealings of money means you have to give whatever change you owe - DUH! And tip was already included in the bill, so no, she did not mistake the cash for tip. Ended up paying $5 extra tip on top of tax and 18% gratuity for shitty service.

This place was a real bummer!!! Service was HORRIBLE!! sat at the bar and the bartenders really put dampers on my date night w my hubby with there immature attitudes. Where do I start - after waiting 10+ min for a drink we finally had to get bartenders attention, but the funny thing was they weren't even that busy and they walked by many many times. I could go on and on about how sh*tty their service was all around but id rather say I'm just really disappointed. I wanted to like this place bad! After being introduced by a coworker I took my husband back a few days later to try. The tacos are soooo good but I can't do with overly cocky bartenders, that's not the business!! Unfortunately, I will be taking my business elsewhere and spreading the word to my venture capital friends about how crappy the service is here. Right on to the douche bag (as another reviewer stated) bartenders for reuining my experience! Makes me question the management and why they would keep these type of people working there??

3.5/4 stars. Went for dinner with a couple on a Sunday night. Started with the guac and plantains and of course margaritas. I got the Pasion which was crazy spicy but good. House was good too. Guac could have used a little something extra (would be nice to designate a spice level). We all shared tacos, and me being the vegetarian had the 2 veggie ones. Loved the cactus one yum! Both were good though and the accompanying sauces nice also. Also shared a salad which was very fresh. Waitress was not pleasant at all but luckily the food was good. Would like to try the mushroom empanadas next time.

Third time we have come here and the service is terrible, especially if you bring kids. The wait staff seem annoyed that they need to deal with families. Sorry we are not all 20 something's.

I remember a time when i was 14 years old dying of pneumonia in Mexico. Yeah, I was in bed and had to undergo tons of antibiotic rounds and after like 2 days i made it out...well, they still kept me in the hospital for like 3 days for "observation". What does this have to do with Tacolicious? I tell you what. The food that i was only allowed to eat at the time has an uncanny resemblance to Tacolicious food. The chicken in the "taco of the week Chicken carnitas" tasted like boiled chicken (it was shredded too!) flavorless, white boiled damn chicken, it was the worst taco I have ever had and it brought back the memories of my stay at Hospital del sagrado corazon in Mexico. The tortillas are what appear to be microwaved, they are bland and soggy. The shredded guajillo beef was an insult to guajillo chiles and it was a soggy mess that tasted like canned ragu spaghetti sauce and their "hot" habanero salsa was comparable to the frito-lay salsas from Safeway. To counteract the tasteless flavor of the tacos i kindly asked my server to bring limes, they never made it. Sad. I had high hopes for you tacolicious i did. I guess am going to have to continue to go to San Jose or even SF to get my fixed for Mexican food.

I had a vegetarian empanada filled with mushrooms and laced with green sauce - which was crisp and tasty. The best part was the salsa and chips - the salsa was pungent and spicy enough. We had a nice time. The place got a bit loud.

Tacos were excellent, guac was well-portioned, service was great, atmosphere (music, lighting, decor) very comfy in the evening. Love that it stays open late. Waitresses gave us free shots. No complaints.

I went for opening night last night. The food and atmosphere were awesome, but best of all was the service. I think every single employee came by to ask if we wanted more chips.

Went there tonight with my two kids. Was so loud we couldn't hear each other across the table and eventually gave up trying to talk. The noise drowned out the rest of the experience (literally). The worst ambiance I've experienced in the last several years, I couldn't wait to leave.

  • D J.

yummy! You would think that just 2 tacos may not be enough for a meal, but I was pretty full afterwards! The tacos tasted great, and the chips, salsa and guacamole were amazing. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Minus some stars...I think we got food poisoning the last time we went. But, I wanted to write a positive review to mention how great the hostess was the night we went. She was friendly and really helped to solve our problem. I'll give the restaurant another shot (the food and drinks did taste good) just because the hostess went above and beyond. Great service!

  • S E.

As you can tell from reading other reviews, this place specializes in a happy hour atmosphere - their beer and tequila selection is good, and they keep the drinks coming. Their food is also pretty good but definitely not the draw - the salsa needs a bit more flavor, if you ask me - you come for the energetic atmosphere after work and on weekends. It's a modern, lofty space with low key lighting. I have to laugh a little bit at the nightclub-style rope outside - like this place is going to be overrun with people lining up for Negra Modelo on draft? On second thought, that pint was pretty good... though I am not sure I would wait in line outside for it. It's not someplace I would choose for dinner just for the food, but I'll be back when I want to meet someone for a drink as a starting off point for the rest of the evening. There is a also a great private room which fits about 30 people - fun for a large gathering. They just bring trays of tacos and you sit and have your drink glass refilled.

Fabulous food and great side sauces. My taste buds are pleasantly surprised. If you want to have a conversation with friends you haven't seen in a while, then this restaurant is not the place. My husband used his iPhone decibel meter and it was 95 on a Thursday night! To the management, Could you please turn down the music and possibly add some noise cancelling panels or something? We really love your food and it is too cold in PA to sit outside.

I really enjoyed the marina location and was super excited for Tacolicious to come to PA. When my friends got there Tacolicious had the "we don't seat people until our entire party is there" rule... which I get, but when majority of your party has been waiting there for some time shouldn't you just seat them (3/4 people)? To kill the wait time until we could be seated at a table, we ordered a pitcher of the house margarita. I was really disappointed with the margarita... it was ALL lime juice... still not sure if there was tequila in it! That being said, the queso (cheese) dip was amazing and I loved the nopal taco, didn't enjoy the tuna taco though. I'll be back for take-out to eat my nopal tacos and queso dip with (cheaper & tastier) margaritas at home!

This new, hip, airy restaurant on Emerson had all the promise of something wonderful. We ordered four tacos, two flavors from the menu and left the one with braised meat uneaten. We went on hopefully to the empanadas and left tasting but not finishing the food. The promise is not fulfilled.

One of the newer places in Palo Alto and overall I enjoy the meals. Quite pricey but definitely a nice place to go to if you want to splurge and to satisfy your inner spoiled kid. Their carnitas are by far their best of all the meats they have to offer. Portions are lacking and need to pay an extra pretty penny in order to fill me up. They do provide lots of their own tortilla chips as fillers. For some reason though whenever I eat a moderate amount of chips I end up feeling I can't take another bite of anything else or else risk losing my lunch in a very unpleasant way. I don't know how others are to take of this but just thought that might be something to note. Probably will go back every once in a while.

WORST SERVICE EVER! I've never felt so compelled to write a review about a place until tonight. I could not believe how unbelievably slow the entire waitstaff was. First of all, our waitress would not even stop by our table even though we clearly made eye contact with her multiple times. She somehow decided to skip our table. Then, in the middle of ordering she told us, "Hold on I will be right back" and left for at least ten minutes before finally deciding to return to finish taking our order. There were maybe three waiters/waitresses in the entire restaurant on a Saturday night. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed and could not handle the amount of tables that she had. The busboy to waiter ratio is about 15:1. Also, the person that maybe looked like the manager spent most of his time talking to the same table of all women the entire night instead of walking around asking if all of his customers were doing okay. If he had done so, he would have realized that we were not. We were really looking forward to going to this restaurant tonight but were completely disappointed. Avoid this place if you do not want to spend your entire dinner flagging people down.

New "Mexican" restaurant, just opened in Palo Alto. Nice facilities. Limited menu: tacos, tacos, or tacos: and not that many of them. Food was quite poor. Flavors were unappealing. The chips were very good, but I didn't go out for lunch to eat chips. Service was pleasant but weak: I had to take water to be refilled.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
